The effect of Kelvin-Helmholtz instability on the boundaries of the
plasma sheet in the nightside magnetosphere is studied within the
framework of a multilayered model. A generalized dispersion equation is
obtained for the frequencies of natural oscillations in the layer
system, taking into account the compressibility of the plasma.
