The wavenumbers of the iodine absorption spectrum and the uranium emission spectrum have been measured by Fourier spectroscopy. The precision of these spectra is judged to be sufficiently high to permit their use as secondary wavenumber standards, particularly for Fourier spectroscopy. A list of 523 precise lines of the uranium emission spectrum is presented, together with iodine absorption lines taken from an atlas of the iodine molecule (Gersterkorn and Luc, 1977). An algorithm for processing spectral data which allows the error of measurements of wavenumbers to be estimated as a function of the signal/noise ratio of the line is described.
