On Jan. 28, 1983 a dozen persons met for a one-day mini workshop on P Cygni at the Utrecht Observatory. A short report is presented about the thoughts on P Cygni expressed on this occasion. P Cygni appears now to be a B1 supergiant or even hypergiant of magnitude 4.9. The star is surrounded by an expanding envelope. In a comparison of this star with other B1 supergiants, a number of peculiarities are found related to the mass loss rate, the terminal velocity of the wind, and the degree of ionization. Attention is given to methods for the determination of the wind's electron temperature, P Cygni's evolutionary stage, the interpretation of P Cygni's photometric history, unanswered questions, and aspects which require further investigation.
