The optical continuum (B band) linear polarization of the star P Cygni was intensively monitored over an interval spanning 15 months. The detected polarization variations indicate anisotropic mass flows which are both spatially and temporally varying. Lower limit estimates have been made on the amounts of mass deposited in the circumstellar envelope during various activity episodes. Dynamical stellar instabilities are likely to account for the mass flow variations.
