We consider the definition of relative deviations and strains among a set of accelerated particles in general relativity, with special attention to role of fiducial observers and the geometric properties of adapted frames. As an example we study here the behaviour of an initially spherical bunch of particles emitted along trajectories parallel to the symmetry axis of a Kerr black hole, showing that, under suitable conditions, curvature and inertial strains compete to generate jet-like structures.
