This paper describes a new method for deriving the gravitational
redshift, the true Doppler redshift and the mass of a quasi-stellar
object from its observed redshift and the deflection of its radio
radiation in the field of an intervening gravitational lens. The method
is applied to the quasar 3C 279 and the double quasar 0957+561 A, B.
