We report far-infrared photometry for the central regions of Maffei 2. The fitted dust temperatures show a definite decline away from the nucleus. This supports the hypothesis that the molecular clouds close to the nucleus represent a different population from the disk clouds.Extragalactic studies that assume constant temperatures to convert CO integrated intensity to molecular hydrogen surface mass density may be in serious error.
