Spectroscopic observations of a C-S star detected between the Herbig-Haro objects 1 and 2 (HH 1 and HH 2) are presented and discussed in the context of the excitatory mechanisms of HH line emissions. The C-S star (a Tauri star) was examined in the wavelength regions 5700-6800 A in separate observations. The scans covered the regions 23 arcsec north and south of the object. The derived H-alpha line profile displayed a broad (H-alpha) and a narrow (forbidden N II) component. The H-alpha emission was weaker than other T Tauri stars, and further consideration indicated that the emissions were actually arising in the nebular region around the object. Estimates were made of the mass loss requirements for excitation of the HH objects, as well as the kinetic energies of HH 1 and 2. Mass loss estimates for the C-S star were found to be too small to account for excitation of the HH objects unless the wind from the C-S star is highly time variable. It is concluded that winds from T Tauri stars are not the prime mechanism for excitation of HH objects, and that further studies are indicated to characterize mechanisms which direct flows efficiently into small solid angles.
