It is pointed out that theoretical studies of the structures of large, collisionless stellar systems have traditionally centered on rotationally flattened, oblate models. However, such models fail to acount for the recently observed slow rotations and isophotal twists in certain elliptial galaxies. They are also inappropriate for studies of bars in barred spiral galaxies. It is, therefore, necessary to consider a variety of forms. The present investigation is concerned with the construction of a family of models which will be useful for analytic studies of dynamical phenomena in prolate, axisymmetric or nearly axisymmetric, stellar systems. A secondary goal is to delineate the ways in which the structures and kinematics of the members of this family depend on the distributions of their stars in the phase space.
