Present day models of galactic dynamos and their assumptions are
discussed with respect to their justification from the observations.
Global properties as magnetic field strength, geometry and magnetic
pitch angle are considered. The correlation of magnetic fields with the
spiral structure is related to the results of actual 3D simulations.
