Continuous Radiation, H Ii Regions, Hydrogen Ions, Hydroxyl Emission, Maser Outputs, Stellar Evolution, Giant Stars, Identifying, Isophotes, Main Sequence Stars, Point Sources

The centimeter continuum radiation was mapped in 11 fields containing 13 OH masers with accurately known positions. Three kinds of sources were observed: 7 point sources identified with masers, 3 extended sources identified with masers, and 3 masers without continuum sources. If the sample studied is representative of Type I masers, then the majority of these masers coincide with very compact H II regions. The following sequence of events is proposed: when a massive star reaches the main sequence, it will form a very small H II region. In this stage, a Type I OH maser may appear within 10,000 AU from the H II region. The maser will last a few thousand years until the H II region expands beyond a critical diameter, perhaps 15,000 AU, and a 'normal' compact H II region appears.
