The present work gives a systematic account of test and adjustment procedures for classical Schmidt telescopes which are either new or which have been in regular operation. The initial quality test of Schmidt telescope entails control of uniformity of plateholders, examination of the deformed plate surface, test of mirror support system, test of flexure effects on alignment, test of focus reproducibility and temperature dependence, and the well-known Hartmann test as the ultimate check of the combined optical and mechanical performance of the telescope. Regular optical alignment consists of centering of corrector plate, removing plateholder tilt, focusing, and centering of plateholder.
