The spectral variability of OBA super- and hypergiants is reviewed, based on the monitorings conducted by the Landessternwarte Heidelberg Hot Star Group. The datasets of a sample of more than two dozen stars cover typically a couple of months and a spectral range from 3500 to 8600 A, with a resolving power of 20000. Using these data sets, a scheme of the variability, changing as a function of the position in the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram, is proposed. The spectral variability of P Cygni is compared to these results.
