The data analysis effort within the LIGO Scientific Collaboration (LSC) is organized around the four main classes of signals: binary inspiral waves, continuous waves, unmodeled bursts and stochastic waves. The detection of each signal type presents its own challenges. In this article, I discuss the practicalities of data analysis activities within the LSC. This is followed by a description of the sources, algorithms and sensitivity of LIGO with an emphasis on data analysis software development within the LSC. .
