Pulsating Stars: Radial Velocities

Scientific paper

The author uses high-dispersion CCD spectrograms obtained between 1994 and 1998 to study the radial velocity variations for the absorption and emission components of the Hα line in the spectrum of β Cep. He shows that the radial velocity of the emission component does not depend on star pulsation and systematically differs from the star's radial velocity. The star's radial velocity, which has been measured on the C II doublet lines and corrected for pulsation, decreases faster than predicted by the orbital motion ephemeris. It is possible that the periastron passage will occur earlier than expected.
