The possibility is studied for utilizing holographic interferometry to measure the distribution of the coefficient of refraction and the concentration of mercury vapors in arcing in a high-pressure mercury lamp. A method of two expositions (first - in a set state of discharge, second - at 0.5 seconds after extinguishing the lamp) is used which makes it possible to eliminate the effect of optic heterogeneity and changes of the temperature of the discharge chamber walls. A relation between the coefficient of refraction of the plasma and the concentration of unexcited atoms is given. To calculate the distribution of the coefficient of refraction of the gas, the Abel transformation is used. The obtained interferograms and tables of concentration and temperature of the mercury vapors are presented.
