Abstract

HerPlaNS is a Herschel Open Time program that exploits the unprecedented spatial resolving power in the far infrared of the Herschel Space Observatory to investigate a sample of 11 planetary nebulae (PNe). The aim of the program is to study the distribution of cold dust in the nebulae, using the PACS and SPIRE imaging modes, and to diagnose the physical conditions of the gas component in the nebulae using the PACS and SPIRE spectroscopy modes. In addition to investigating a completely new wavelength range (60--670um), combining the imaging and spectroscopy will allow us to build a more complete picture of the interplay between the dust and gas as a function of location in the nebulae. In this poster we will present the HerPlaNS program, its aim, the adopted observing technics and a glimpse of our preliminary results.
