Wrinkle ridges are winding, blisterlike features that snake across virtually all the Moon's mare surfaces. Few ridges exceed 300 meters in height, but on the relatively smooth mare, they are easily observed when near the terminator. Wrinkle ridges are probably the least-understood class of lunar features and there are at least six different theories to explain their formation. None of the theories claim to explain all wrinkle ridges and all the theories may play a part in their formation.
