The motion of a charged particle in a dipole magnetic field is analyzed. It is found that any periodic orbit which is symmetric with respect to the equatorial plane is also symmetric with respect to the meridian plane at the time of particle reflection. The analysis shows that at the moment of reflection, the particle gyrates about the line of force with the greatest cyclotron-frequency value. It is concluded that particles moving near the equatorial plane gyrate about the line of force more slowly than those moving away from this plane and that orbits with many spirals should be reflected back at higher altitudes than those with a few spirals.
