Firstly, the division of periods of Indian astronomy is presented, and then the history of Indian astronomy during the Vedic period and Vedanga astronomy period is explained. Indian astronomy and calendar were developed in accordance with the development of producing activity such as agriculture, and was then symbolized in some rituals, and finally established itself as an independent discipline "Vedanga astronomy" which is for the determination of the dates of rituals. That the Vedanga astronomy is based on the actual astronomical observations in North India is demonstrated.
