The astrometric precision of the second generation VLTI instrument GRAVITY is investigated in its imaging mode. This mode allows getting valuable astrometric information about the content of the field of view by analyzing the image computed from simulated realistic interferometric data. This information can then be used to bootstrap a fitting procedure in order to achieve the highest possible astrometric precision. It is shown that GRAVITY's astrometric precision for a single star in imaging mode is of the order of the Schwarzschild radius of the central black hole Sgr A*. The instrument can also demonstrate that a body orbiting on the last stable orbit of the hole is indeed moving when its maximum luminosity is of mK=13, 14 or even 15.
