Nebulosity associated with the supernova remnant W50 is collisionally excited ([S II]/Hα ˜ 2), highly reddened (AV = 4.5) and has a large radial velocity (166 km s-1) It also has abnormally strong [N II] lines ([N II]/Hα ˜ 5), Puppis-A being the only other supernova remnant showing such an anomaly. The large reddening is not inconsistent with the suggestion that the peculiar emission-line object and X-ray source SS433 is associated with W50.
