Perturbations in the orbit of the Quadrantid meteor stream, induced by
Jupiter and the earth, result in a movement of this orbit across that of
the earth. This paper investigates the process in detail and explains
why the Quadrantids were first seen only in 1835, and how by AD 2100
they will no longer be visible from the earth.
