We review the current observational knowledge of the interstellar magnetic field within ˜ 150 pc of the Galactic center. We also provide a critical theoretical discussion of the most important observational results, mainly those concerning the magnetic field strength. Finally, we examine the possible connections with the general magnetic field of the Galaxy.
