The effects of various troublesome parameters on the accuracy of determining space-probe orbits from trajectory measurements are studied. The term 'troublesome parameters' is defined as errors in information about the basic phenomena that determine the forces acting on a space probe; these include gravitational-field parameters and the properties of planetary atmospheres. An expression is presented for analyzing errors in orbit determinations involving troublesome parameters, and the accuracy of estimating orbital elements under certain conditions is considered. Some practical aspects of developing an algorithm for solving a quadratic-programming problem are examined.
