Photographs of the surface of Venus transmitted by the landing modules of Venera-9 and -10 are presented. The photographs were taken by specially designed opticomechanical panorama-type television cameras. The images were transmitted from the landing modules to the orbiting spacecraft for real-time transmission to earth. The panoramas contained 514 scanning lines. Rocks appearing in the images indicate the presence of active tectonic processes. The degree of illumination shows the Venutian atmosphere to be more transparent than expected.
