The present paper reports radio observations of the nuclei of the early-type spiral galaxies NGC 3031 and NGC 4594 (the Sombrero Nebula) at frequencies of 610, 1415, 2695, 4995, and 8085 MHz. It is found that both nuclei contain a compact radio source with an angular size of less than 0.1 sec. The radio spectra and variability of each galaxy are discussed, and it is shown that the nucleus of NGC 3031 is variable on a short time scale, although the variations do not exceed a factor of 1.5 over a time scale of up to eight years. Marginal evidence is found for variability in NGC 4594. A nonthermal emission mechanism is proposed in each case, and synchrotron self-absorption as well as free-free absorption are considered as possible explanations.
