New radial velocities in the Cygnus loop indicate that Minkowski's value
of 116 km/sec is much too low. The new data indicate a shock velocity
near 400 km/sec that can produce the observed X-rays and forbidden Fe
XIV emission. They also imply that the age and distance of the Cygnus
loop may have been seriously overestimated.
