The paper calculates collision strengths and parameters (required for the calculation of collisional rate coefficients) for the fine structure transitions 2 D 3/2-2 P 5/2, 4 S 3/2-2 DJ, 4 S 3/2-2 PJ, and 2 DJ-2 PJ prime within the ground configuration of O II. Distorted wave and close coupling calculations are made for the forbidden transitions in the ground configurations of S II, with the target represented by the ground configuration 3s-2 3p-3 and by the quasi-degenerate configuration 3p-5 which gives some correlation effect.
