High-resolution photometric observations of the Cl II forbidden lines at 8579.5 A and the Fe II forbidden lines at 8617 A were made across the Orion Nebula. The Fe abundance (equal to 9 x 10 to the -7th, assuming an electron temperature (Te) of 9000 K) is found to be a factor of 35 lower than in the sun, and a factor of 3.6 larger than in the interstellar medium. The mean Cl abundance (6 x 10 to the -8th, also for a 9000 K Te) is about two times lower than that found by other authors.
