A study of the distribution of stars and interstellar dust is presented for a field at the inner border of the Carina spiral feature. The membership of the stars relative to the stellar groups along the line of sight is discussed taking into account distance moduli, color excesses, field positions, and connection to the HII region. The A-type stars are found at 700 pc, and a clustering of luminous stars connected with the HII region RWC 62 is located at 1.7 kpc. From approximately 4 kpc the interstellar dust appears collected in small clouds with high absorbing powers; there appears no evidence of a bifurcation into a main arm and a spur in the Carina spiral structure.
