The nature of the strong and broad absorption feature centered around 1550 A in low-resolution spectrophotometric tracings of B-type giant stars is investigated using Copernicus scans of Beta CMa (B1 II), Beta Cen (B1 III), and Gamma Ori (B2 III) in the wavelength range from 1520 to 1620 A. It is shown that the 1550-A feature is due to a blend of Fe III lines and does not involve any C IV lines.
