A blink survey for blue and red stars over the face of M31 was made. The
candidates for brightest member stars were isolated. The brightest blue
star in M31 has M(v) = -9. The survey confirms that the brightest red
star has M(v) = -8. The frequency of bright red and blue stars in M31 is
lower than in M33.
