This paper presents calculations of the Cowling approximation D(nl) (where n and l are the order and the degree of the mode), computed from the Gough (1984, 1986) formula for nu(n,l). Also computed are values of D(nl) and Delta D(n). It is shown that, contrary to the results of Gough, the layers above the turning point of the (n - 1,l + 2) mode contribute significantly to Delta D(n). It is found that, when the perturbation of the gravitational potential are taken into account for evaluations of D(nl) and Delta D(n), all layers inside the solar sphere extending over 25 to 35 percent of the total radius contribute significantly to both of these quantities.
