Observations with a new imaging Fabry-Perot interferometer, TAURUS-2, show that there is a close spatial association between the two systems of emission-line gas in the active galaxy NGC 1275. It therefore seems likely that, as first suggested by Baade and Minkowski (1954), two galaxies are in the process of colliding. It is shown that this hypothesis is consistent with all available observations of this object.
