An analysis is made of the motion of an elastic membrane stretched onto a rigid closed contour in circular Keplerian motion in a central Newtonian force field. The existence of weak solutions of the equation of motion is demonstrated. Sufficient conditions for the existence of steady-state solutions are formulated, and their Liapunov stability is analyzed. The particular case of the bifurcation of a trivial steady-state motion is examined.
