Kernels are developed which express the sensitivity of solar acoustic oscillation frequencies to changes in opacity at fixed radius. Inversion is carried out using the method of optimally localized averaging to obtain linear combinations of frequency differences between the real Sun and a reference model which represent localized averages of the opacity difference between the two. Reference models are constructed with and without helium settling and inversions are carried out relative to these models. No evidence is found for helium or heavy element settling.
