The basic physical processes and recent progress in magnetospheric physics are reviewed. The topics are: magnetopause, plasmasphere, proton radiation belt, wave-particle interaction, electron radiation belt, wave excitation, aurorae, plasma mantle, plasma sheet, and magnetospheres other than terrestrial. For each, the basic theory and necessary topological considerations are detailed together with a presentation of the most recent experimental verifications.
