Photoelectrically calibrated photographic photometry was used to obtain approximately 3100 measurements down to V = 20 in three regions of the galaxian field of approximately one square degree each, selected away from known rich clusters of galaxies. An attempt is made to reconcile the observed magnitude distribution of the field with both cosmological models and the intrinsic luminosity function for field galaxies. Although the field galaxy luminosity function does not appear to be too different from that for rich clusters, the spiral galaxy content of the field is considerably greater, the field galaxy apparent visual magnitude distribution is given in the form of the slope of the logarithmic integrated counts as a function of visual magnitude. The field correction for cluster photometry is then illustrated by an application to Abell Cluster 2670.
