Arguments are presented in favor of the idea that Coulomb forces between triboelectric charges on Martian soil particles may be the reason for particle amalgamation into relatively large granules. It is also suggested that mechanical (i.e., wind) action on the granules is responsible for their destruction and for the subsequent injection of dust material into the Martian atmosphere. The critical particle velocity at which granules will be destroyed is estimated.
