When gravity data are corrected for low-density sedimentary rocks, the positive gravity anomaly associated with the Mississippi embayment is seen to be continuous along the embayment. The continuity of the axial gravity anomaly suggests that a reversed seismic profile along the axis and a deep seismic reflection across it would yield crucial information on the crustal structure of the embayment.
