A hydrodynamical treatment of radio source models expanding nonrelativistically into vacuum is presented. Both a linear and a spherical geometry are considered. The time evolution of the flux density is computed for sources which initially are optically thick and upon expansion become optically thin as well as for sources which are initially and at all times optically thin. The spectral evolution is shown also. The results are compared with those for homogeneous models.
