A quantitative prediction is made of the galactic medium energy (10-30 MeV) gamma ray emission arising from the Inverse Compton scattering of cosmic ray electrons on the interstellar photon field. Particular attention is devoted to the far-infrared (not less than 100 microns) diffuse galactic component; in particular, its energy density galactocentric distribution is derived. Results are given as a function of two basic assumptions on the high-energy electron spatial distribution, i.e., constancy and exponential decrease away from the galactic center. A comparison with the bremsstrahlung results of Fichtel et al. (1976) shows how future experimental data can provide discriminating results between the various proposed cases.
