A study is made of the phase space of a galactic dynamical model under the influence of a periodic time dependent perturbation caused by a companion galaxy. For large values of the forcing frequency, no stochastic motion is observed. As the forcing frequency decreases, the stochastic regions increase until the system appears macroscopically chaotic. The degree of stochasticity also increases as the amplitude of the forcing term increases. Furthermore, the character of the motion is determined by computing the Liapunov characteristic exponent. The results are compared with the results of the forced pendulum.
