A general survey of supernova (SN) observations is presented. The goals of such observations are discussed including the aspects of interest: mass, chemical composition, luminosity, temperature, radius, and age of the SN. Other topics discussed are pre-SN and their masses, SN formation rates, and a comparison of two extreme SN rates. Attention is also given to various aspects of SN occurrences.
