Our model describing the gas flux inside and out of the porous nucleus has been used to study the influence of porosity, initial composition, and thermal conductivity on the gas flux. We solve the conservation equations for H2O, several minor abundant gases of higher volatility, and dust under the appropriate boundary conditions. From the calculations we obtain the gas flux from volatile, icy components into the coma, temperature profiles, and changes in relative chemical abundances. One goal of comet research is to determine conditions in the solar nebula based on the chemical composition and structure of comet nuclei. Measurements of the very active Comet Hale-Bopp (C/1995 O1) provide us coma mixing ratios over a large range of heliocentric distances. We compare measurements with results from our calculations and try to get some clues about the evolutionary status and composition of the comet.
