Previous photometric observations of the U Gem-type dwarf nova HT Cas are reviewed, and recent spectroscopic observations at minimum light are presented. The spectra of HT Cas at minimum are shown to be characterized by the presence of broad Balmer emission lines of moderate strength over a fairly strong continuum. It is found that the strength of the Balmer lines decreases steadily from H-beta to H-gamma, that H-alpha is much narrower and weaker than H-beta, and that very weak narrow emission lines are superimposed on H-alpha, H-beta, and H-gamma. The results indicate both variable radial velocity (from +370 to -185 km/s) and variables Balmer-line widths. It is concluded that HT Cas is a close binary, possibly with a period of less than 6 hr and a disk around the blue star that is partially eclipsed by the secondary during its orbital motion.
