The Galactic Center is an extremely complex region with extremely high stellar densities, high-mass star formation, highly sheared motions and magnetic fields, and probably a massive black hole. Past X-ray observations have not had sufficient resolution or sensitivity to clearly discriminate the various emitting structures. This ACIS observation has the high energy response to penetrate the large column densities, the resolution to achieve extremely high sensitivity to an active galactic nucleus and detect a variety of stellar sources.
