A dynamically based galaxy merger rate formula is combined here with a luminosity evolution calculation better to quantify the evolution of the rapid galaxy merger model of galactic evolution. A dynamical calculation which follows the evolution of the galaxy mass function with redshift is presented. It is concluded that current epoch merger rates imply little mass evolution up to z = 0.5 but a substantial change thereafter.
