Submillimeter continuum observations of six radio-quiet IRAS AGN are reported in order to test models of the IR continuum by constraining the far-IR/submillimeter cutoff slope. The measured cutoff slopes in three of these objects are 2.50, thereby ruling out self-absorbed synchrotron emission from electrons with a single power law energy distribution. Synchrotron emission from sources with more complex electron distributions cannot yet be rejected, but such sources must also be completely homogeneous in order to satisfy the slope constraints set here and by others. It is concluded that the cutoff slope results are consistent with, and favor, the dust model of the IR continuum. In a related program of measurements, the z = 2.546 gravitationally lensed quasar H1413+117 was observed, and the slope between 438 and 761 microns is found to be 2.95 +/- 0.69. It is suggested that a highly luminous but otherwise rather normal far-IR peak shifted well into the submillimeter region is being seen in this object.
